1ST GREAT MISSENDEN SCOUT
GROUP CHRISTMAS NEWSLETTER 2008 |
As 2008 comes to a close with the excitement of Christmas we wanted to remind you of a few of the year's
highlights and give you a taster for 2009!
Beavers
Some of the highlights have included the sleep over and hike in the spring, pond dipping in High Wycombe, the Fun
Day at Braid Wood and the junk modelling of Bug Monsters! For 2009 we are planning another Beaver sleep over in
February with 3rd Chesham Beavers.
We are also seeking to recruit some more Beavers and an Assistant Beaver Leader. We look forward to seeing all of
the Beavers in the New Year on Tuesday 13th January 2009.
Cubs
The highlights of the year have included several hikes, climbing, fire lighting and outdoor cooking and a weekend
camp near Ashley Green with 3rd Chesham. As with the Millennium and Centenary Camps, the weather turned very wet
and the field was covered with standing water by the time we packed up, but everyone went home warm and happy. I
am pleased that our numbers have increased from four to twelve during the last two months. Next year we will
attend the County Cub Camp in May and we are planning some hikes and other outdoor activities.
Scouts
The Scout Troop has had a fairly busy year again. We have seen an increase from fourteen members to twenty, and
have a have a much better boy to girl ratio. Scouts have gained a number of badges including: Chef, Emergency Aid
Stage 3, Global Challenge, Caver, Outdoor and Outdoor Plus Challenges and Heritage. Our activities have included
ice skating, a visit from Towersey Morris, night hikes, a caving weekend, a weekend camp at Youlbury near Oxford,
cooking on fires, pioneering, rafting, litter picking in the Misbourne School, conservation work at Holy Trinity
Church, Prestwood, a County Patrol Leaders' Camp, climbing, orienteering, football, and more.
The Group Executive Committee would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a very Merry
Christmas and Happy New Year!
PS Why not make one of your new year's resolutions to take a more active role in the Scout Movement. We can find
something valued for you to do for just an hour a year or an hour a week!
