1ST GREAT MISSENDEN SCOUT
GROUP Easter Newsletter - April 2009 |
Dear Parents
It doesn't seem two minutes since we were working on our Christmas newsletter and now Easter is nearly here! We have had a great term with lots going on and hope that all of our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts have as well. Attached at the end of this newsletter are the dates of some of the planned activities between now and the end of the summer term.
Adult Support
You may be aware that we actually have a vacancy for a Cub Leader & Assistant Cub Leader. Chris Robinson, our Group Scout Leader, has been acting as Cub Leader in order to keep the pack going. Chris has received some great assistance by a small number of parents on a rota basis.
We are now at a point where it is critical that we find some new Leaders to enable Chris to fulfil his Group Scout Leader responsibilities properly, and ensure that the Cub Pack continues to grow.
In addition to Leaders for Cubs, we are also looking for some Leaders for the Beaver section. Mo Robinson is finding it increasingly difficult to run the fun and active programme that the Beavers enjoy, due to her declining mobility. She is actively looking to find someone a little younger and more active to take on the Colony.
I'm sure you agree that the benefits Scouting offers to your children are numerous, however, to enable us to continue to deliver this we need more parents to get actively involved.
While you may feel that you do not have the skills or experience to help, please be assured that many of the Cub Packs and Beaver Colonies locally are run by people like yourselves who came in with no experience, and have learned all they need to know along the way. There is plenty of support and training available to get you up and running, and all it takes is someone with an interest in helping to develop young people (and it can be rewarding and great fun !)
We see several possible ways forward to fill these vacancies - but if you can think of any others please let us know!
One option is for someone to step forward now to take on one of these roles. They will of course receive lots of support/training to enable them to get up and running.
The other option is for a group of parents to take over the running of the Beaver Colony or Cub Pack on a rota or shared basis, so that the job can be split up so not every one needs to be there every week. This takes a bit more managing, but can work if someone can not commit to every week.
With either option there will be support from other warranted leaders to support the weekly meetings until the new leaders find their feet.
If you think you could help out in some way or know someone locally who may be able to, please do not hesitate to talk to any of the Group Leaders or call Chris Daltry - Group Chairman 01494 890007 to discuss any of these options in more detail. You may also find the Scout Website provides some useful information.

Beaver, Cub and Scout Vacancies
We have space for more new recruits in all sections so if you know of any young people who would like to join or just come along for a taster session contact one of the Leaders. Remember that we encourage girls as well as boys to enjoy Scouting in all three sections.
The Group Executive Committee would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a great Easter Holiday!
