1ST GREAT MISSENDEN SCOUT
GROUP January 2010 Newsletter |
Welcome to 2010 and I hope like us you are looking forward to another exciting year of Scouting! We have a number of plans for the year, which are detailed below along with some key dates for your diaries.
Fundraising
We would like to start by saying thank you to everyone who helped sell stamps and cards and a really big thank you to those who delivered the Christmas post in very snowy conditions. The purpose of the post is to raise the profile of the group and raise funds. The Christmas cards were also a great success, as was the Book Sale which generated enough income to purchase a notice board for the hut and to put towards other improvements.
Leaders
The executive is really pleased to be able to report that the new leadership team for cubs is now in place and as a result Chris Robinson will be relinquishing his Acting Cub Leader role. The executive would like to thank Chris for all his hard work keeping the cub section going alongside his many other scouting roles.
The focus for this year is the Beaver colony, which Chris still supports as well. We are very keen to increase Beaver numbers and need parents to support the sessions with a view to taking on an Assistant Leader role. Any interested parents should contact Mo Robinson on 01494 863946 - commitments can be as little as once a month up to every week.
Hut Spring clean!
Following the success of our tidy up days last year we are planning a spring clean on Saturday May 15th 10am until 1pm. We are hoping to have a good clean through, trim some of the bushes around the hut, undertake an inventory for insurance purposes and various other tasks. Please turn up at any time even if it's just for half an hour we can find tasks for everyone!
100 Club in aid of Shelterbox
Shelterbox provide shelter, warmth and dignity to families that have been displaced by natural disasters or conflict. Last year they started a partnership with the Scout Association. The Scout Troop will be undertaking the Shelterbox Challenge this year, and will be raising funds for the charity as part of the challenge. The first initiative is a 100 Club which will cost £1 a month. You will get more details from Ben Hannen (Scout Leader) soon.
Subscription Standing Orders
If anyone has forgotten to contact Katy to pay by standing order to fix the price of Subs for three years please contact Katy on 01494 766970 or 07960 964704.
