Autumn Camp
We camped at Braidwood for two nights at the start of the half term break. There were 13 Scouts plus Ben, Tom,
Andy and Steve (young leader). Elspeth is still not well enough to camp, but came and visited during the
weekend.
After pitching on Friday, the Scouts spent time round the campfire and exploring the site. On Saturday morning
we woke to rainy weather. We had a cooked breakfast and then got ready for a hike in the locality, with the
hope of calling in at a shop. We hiked in the rain to Lee Common, where we visited the well-stocked village
shop by the Lee Common Scout Hut. We then continued our hike, stopping in a wooded area for packed lunch. By
the time we arrived back at the camp site the weather had improved considerably. We dried off, got the fire
going again and the Scouts met up with other Troops from the district that had arrived to camp.
Saturday evening proved to be quite windy, with some strong gusts of wind. We had to secure the frame tent we
were using as a cook tent, and also to move some of the Scouts out of their less stable hike tents. We woke on
Sunday to sunshine and we were able to pack away in the dry, luckily avoiding the heavy rain that came a few
minutes after we left the site.
