Dragon Boating Competition
On 26th September we entered the Dragon Boating Competition at Longridge in Marlow. We needed a crew of 18 in
the boat plus a drummer We ended up with 17 paddlers and a drummer, which then went down to 16 paddlers as one
of the Scouts couldn't continue. Longridge provided us with a Steersman for each race and the practice session. Most of the Scouts had a practice session the previous weekend at the Pirate Camp, and we all had a practice race in the morning.
The other teams were all quite good and we only mamnaged to get as far as the first heats, so we just had two
races. It is much harder than it looks to have everyone paddling in time and with strong strokes. We hope to
be back next year with an older and stronger team...
All Scouts that went to the Pirate Camp and the Dragon Boating Competition qualified for the Dragon Boating
badge.
