Senior Expedition

We went on 3-day trip to the Peak District to walk in and explore the National Park. We spent Friday night in our Scout Hut and then left early on Saturday, arriving in Hathersage at lunch time. We checked out the outdoor shops and then cooked dinner before having a short walk up to Stanage Edge in the evening.

On the Sunday we set off on a hike to Castleton. For all of the Scouts it was a new challenge to carry all their kit and food for the next two meals, while covering a resonable distance and negotiating some interesting terrain. On arrival in Castleton we soon found that our accommodation was not very suitable, so quickly made a plan B, and were transported back to Hathersage for the night. The Scouts cooked dinner and breakfast again, and on Monday morning we were dropped off back in Castleton to continue our route to Edale, taking in the popular Mam Tor on the way.

At the end of the hike we were collected by Elspeth and sorted out getting the kit and Scouts back into their repective vehicles before heading to Outside at Calver for a hot lunch and then travelling home.

The Scouts are preparing a report on the Expedition as part of their Expedition Challenge, the text of which should be available here shortly...

Sunday morning - ready to set out on the hike       Almost straight away - a hill

Between Bamford and Ladybower - the Scouts hadn't realised at this point that they were going to stop for lunch at the top of the hill in the background.       The path up the hill was steep and unforgiving

Time for a rest       After lunch, coming back down from the hill
